A Note about Medical Cannabis Dispensaries

Currently medical cannabis dispensaries are prohibited in the city of Livermore. In recent months, community members addressed the Council about access to medical cannabis for their health needs. At their meeting on December 12, 2016, the City Council directed staff to seek public input on changing the ordinance to allow one or two dispensaries in the Heavy Industrial (I-3) zoning district, on the east side of the city (see map below). The City will conduct an online survey and hold public workshops in January and February 2017 as part of its effort to gather public input. Please watch the City’s website and social media for announcements about the survey and workshops.

After the completion of the public outreach phase, the City Council will decide whether to proceed with an amendment to allow a medical cannabis dispensary. If the Council decides to proceed, a three to four month process will begin to prepare and adopt the amended ordinance. Until a new ordinance is reviewed and adopted by the City Council, medical cannabis dispensaries will remain a prohibited use and the City will not accept any applications for a medical cannabis dispensary.

At this time, the City of Livermore has no plans to adopt regulations for the commercial cultivation of cannabis or any type of recreational cannabis commercial activity. Questions regarding medical cannabis dispensaries can be directed to the Planning Division at (925) 960-4450 or to .
